Christina Milian appeared on “The Jennifer Hudson Show” where she gave a life update about her new marriage after over a decade of failed relationships.
Before that, she shared her process before meeting her spouse with how although she was enjoying the single life, she prayed, made some sacrifices, spoke to God, and said,
‘Lord, I’m gonna just give all my time to my daughter, you be the man in our life. ‘And help me find, like when the time comes, I’m not forcing it, allow me the opportunity to see it.’
Christina Milian, music artist and ‘Love Don’t Cost a Thing’ actor has been in and out of relationships for over a decade.
From 2000 to 2002, she dated Ja Rule. From 2003 to 2005, she dated Nick Cannon, but they broke up due to his infidelity. In 2009, she married music artist The Dream, but unfortunately, they divorced in 2011, making her a single mother.
Within a year, Christina was engaged to Jas Prince in 2012, but the engagement was called off. After Jas Prince, she dated Lil Wayne in 2015, which didn’t last longer than a year. This was when her break from dating started.
As I contemplated Christina Milian’s story, these major dating lessons stood out.
CHRISTINA MILIAN PUT A PAUSE ON DATING
The first lesson was that she paused dating and focused on being a mother.
Did you know that one of the emotional benefits of pausing dating is that it positions you for self-reflection and growth? Very often, we get caught up in jumping from one relationship to the next that we forget to invest and develop ourselves. We don’t stop and examine lessons from our previous relationships, whether good or bad. Instead, we transfer our baggage onto the next man which becomes a repetitive, toxic cycle. What’s interesting about Christina’s pause on dating was that self-reflection allowed her to recognize that she had a type.
“ ‘I realized I had a type and when I finally stepped out of that type and said I’m open to anything race, color, let’s try it’.
CHRISTINA MILIAN CHANGED HER TYPE
Notice the type of men she previously dated were all R&B artists or rappers who all shared the same values.
Her relationship with Nick Cannon, The Dream, Jas Prince, and Lil Wayne ended because of their infidelity. Her relationship with Ja Rule was the only one that didn’t end because of infidelity; it ended because of differing priorities. However, they all in one way or the other valued sex, money, and status over a healthy, monogamous relationship.
Because Christina was open to changing her type, she was able to break from unhealthy patterns of the same toxic men she was used to dating. This also allowed her to attract someone who respects and values her.
