When You Sing A Love Song, God Will Sing It Back

I didn’t expect a simple love song to turn into a moment with God.

In a dream, I was washing dishes and somehow, out of nowhere, I started singing “I Turn To You” by Christina Aguilera, a song I hadn’t heard since I was a teenager.

As I sang these words, the atmosphere shifted.

“When I lose, the will to win. I just reach for you, and I can reach the sky again.

I can do…anything. Cause your love is so amazing, cause your love inspires me”

In that moment, it was like everything around me became non-existent, and the lyrics weren’t just Christina Aguilera’s anymore. It was God’s heart for me.

The presence of God came upon me so strongly that it overtook me. To the point that my entire posture changed. The weight of his presence was so heavy, I could no longer hold my head up over the sink.

I remember weeping, but not out of sadness. It was because once again, I encountered the Father’s love. His love felt like a powerful force, hugging, uplifting and comforting me all in one. In a moment, His love and presence are that real.

When I woke up, the song was still in my spirit, and I immediately hopped on YouTube to listen to it. Here’s the video in case you would like to check it out!

Why Does This Dream Matter?

This dream matters because it’s not enough for me to just give you dating and relationship advice. Love has a standard, and the standard is God. He’s not religious; He’s personal. He notices, affirms, and will respond to your heart to show you that He’s not out of reach, but is as real and close as the air you’re breathing.

As a teenager, I’d close my eyes and imagine the songs I sang, even though I couldn’t carry a tune. My non-singing self would passionately act out Christina Aguilera’s entire album.

What’s even more amazing is that, of all the songs, God knew I Turn To You was my favorite. In those private moments, I was singing a love song meant for someone else, yet He knew the longings of my heart. Because the truth is, every desire we express—for love, protection, or understanding, He has always been the only one who can truly fulfill it.

I’ve learned that God isn’t distant; He is deeply personal. When you’re singing along to Kehlani, Ella Mai, Coco Jones, or Summer Walker, He’s right there, gently tapping you

on the shoulder. He’s whispering to you,

That’s Me. I’m the one you’re really searching for. I’m the one you’re singing to. I know the deepest longings of your heart because I put them there.”

Conclusion

One hundred percent of the time, the guy you’re singing those love songs to will never even hear them. But when you sing a love song to God, you can count on it that He hears you and will respond with His presence.

Do you remember the sheer excitement of seeing your school crush?

Or the thrill of meeting up with “your boo”?

God’s presence is greater and much sweeter than that! When you encounter it, it’s impossible to stay the same.

Sing your love songs to Him and wait for His response. He will show you that He notices, and will affirm and comfort you.
